STATEMENT BY NDP LEADER TOM MULCAIR ON QUEBEC’S COMMITMENT TO HELP SYRIAN REFUGEES
TORONTO (Sep,7)– “I applaud today’s announcement by Premier Couillard and the Government of Quebec as it takes concrete steps to help Syrian refugees; agreeing to welcome an additional 3,650 refugees this year and to provide necessary support services for the new arrivals.
I also want to thank the other Provincial and Municipal leaders across the country who have stepped up so far with real commitments, during one of the worst refugee crises since the Second World War.
Time and time again, when humanitarian crisis has struck, Canadians have answered the call with generosity; these actions by municipalities and provinces across the country continue that proud tradition. As more and more cities, towns and provinces come forward to offer a helping hand, I call on the Prime Minister to support them in their humanitarian efforts.”
