Sukhbir: Cong MLAs not letting officers take action

Hoshiarpur: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal said today that the “nexus” between Congress legislators and officers was responsible for rampant illegal mining in Punjab.

Addressing a ‘pol khol’ rally here, he said these legislators were not allowing officers to take action against illegal mining despite Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s orders.

On the forthcoming Budget session, he said the Congress government was running away from a debate as it had failed on every front. “That is why it is holding a barely week-long session,” he added.

State BJP president Vijay Sampla said the Congress government had not released the Central grant sent to it for giving scholarships to SC students.

“Power connections of schools are being snapped. Schoolchildren are being denied the mid-day meal,” he added.

Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said the Kandi area had witnessed large-scale development during the SAD-BJP rule. He said the region used to get 24-hour power supply, but now orders were being issued to reduce it to eight hours.
