Terror suspect ‘sent funds’ via mobile banking apps

Amritsar, September 30

Following the trail of financial transactions done by Maan Singh, the counter-intelligence wing is scrutinising the phones found from inside jail premises in the recent past. Maan Singh was arrested by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) after the busting of a Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF) terror module.

Sources said Maan Singh used mobile banking applications for transfer of funds. He used bank accounts of jail inmates for transactions. “Therefore, we are also looking into a nexus of drug peddlers and gangsters in order to track the funds trail of the module,” said the sources.

They said the counter-intelligence wing would take over the possession of phones confiscated from prisoners or found abandoned in the jail complex.

Meanwhile, the SSOC has launched a manhunt to nab three persons whose names came up during the interrogation of Shubhdeep Singh. Shubhdeep had accompanied Akashdeep, Balwant Singh and others to bring the arms consignment smuggled from Pakistan with the help of a drone.

The SSOC had busted the KZF terror module with the arrest of five persons on September 22. It had confiscated five AK-47 rifles, four Chinese pistols and a huge quantity of ammunition from their possession. Later, the police had claimed to have found parts of drones from a godown in the Jhabal area and Baba Budha canal.
