Toronto will not bid for Olympic Games
Toronto will not bid for the Summer Olympic Games 2024. City Mayor John Tory announced Tuesday morning that Toronto will bid for these games one day but not this time.
“Let me be clear, I’m not saying no to the Olympics, I’m saying not this time.” said John Tory in the press conference. Talk of Toronto potentially making a bid was going on in the city for last few days and Mayor Tory had been consulting the stake holders on what was involved in bidding for the games.
“In the end it is not my job to be rash. It is my job to make the best decision for Toronto,” Tory said, adding that while the feedback he received was largely positive, he had to make his decision in a very short period of time. Toronto made two unsuccessful bids in 1996 and 2008.
According to news reports, Los Angeles, Paris, Rome, Budapest, Hungary and Hamburg, Germany have said they would be in the running for an Olympic bid.
