Truckers strike intensifies as talks fail
Mississauga/Sep 11, 2015
Container Truckers intensified their strike today as second round of talks with company representatives fails to find any acceptable solution to the association members. They are picketing today at different terminals and efforts are on to get back to the table for further talk.
The strike enters fourth day today with striking truckers picketing at terminal CP1 in Vaughan, CN Brampton and CN MISC Brampton.
Company representatives could not be reached for comment on the latest. Container truckers are upset with low wages, long and unpaid waiting hours and long working hours and rising costs of operation and maintenance. They are also demanding to be classified as skilled workers so that they could also have union representation.
Current rate for zone one is $ 80 and the association is demanding $115. They are also asking for 22 percent hike in highway rates.
