Two undertrials flee; 3 jail cops held for negligence 

Phagwara: Three head constables were arrested on the charges of negligence and dereliction of duty after two undertrials escaped from the local sub jail today.On a complaint lodged by Deputy Superintendent, sub jail, Gurpreet Singh, the local police registered a case under Sections 223 and 224 of the IPC and under the Jail Manual against head constables Kabul Singh, Mangat Singh and Harpal Singh, and undertrials Pawan Kumar, Amandeep Singh and Rajwinder Singh.Parminder Singh Bhandhal, SP, said Pawan had also been arrested.Earlier, Amandeep and Rajwinder escaped from the sub jail this morning after throwing tea leaves and pepper into the eyes of the prison staff, while Pawan was overpowered by the jail personnel.Amanpreet was arrested on November 24 under Section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) of the IPC, while Rajwinder was nabbed on November 29 under the Arms Act.Superintendent (Jails), Ludhiana, SP Khanna, deputed by ADGP (Jails) Iqbalpreet Singh Sahota, visited the prison to probe the jailbreak.Khanna said he would submit a report in two days. When pointed out that CCTV cameras fitted in the sub jail were not functioning for the past about three months, he said he would look into the matter.
