AUSTRALIA WIN HOCKEY WORLD CUP, INDIA FINISH 9TH
FINAL – AUSTRALIA DEFEAT HOLLAND 6-1
Australia powered to a sensational 6-1 victory over host nation the Netherlands in the men’s final of the Rabobank Hockey World Cup,
with drag-flicking defender Chris Ciriello scoring a hat-trick to help the Kookaburras retain the title that the won four years ago in New
Delhi, India. The Aussies fell behind to an early goal from Jeroen Hertzberger, but Ciriello (3), Kieran Govers, Glenn Turner and Jamie Dwyer all netted to give the Oceania Champions a resounding victory over the home favourites. Two Kookaburras players were also honoured in the individual awards, with team captain Mark Knowles being named Rabobank Player of the Tournament, while Jeremy Hayward was given the Hero Junior Player award.
BRONZE MEDAL GAME – Argentina defeat England 2-0 Argentina coach Carlos Retegui claimed his second Bronze medal in
two days with a 2-0 triumph against England, with Los Leones striker Matias Paredes netting a quick-fire double to shatter English hopes of a place on the Podium.

A stunning strike from Sebastien Dockier helped Belgium’s Red Lions to a fifth place finish at the Rabobank Hockey World Cup, securWORLD CUP HOCKEY – 2014 ing a 4-2 victory over reigning Olympic Champions Germany in a breath-taking 5-6 classification match. Dockier’s fabulous backhand strike from a seemingly impossible angle gave Belgium a two goal advantage with only five minutes remaining, condemning world number 2 Germany to a 6th place finish here in the Hague.
NEW ZEALAND finish at 7th and SPAIN at 8th position Devon Manchester produced a goalkeeping masterclass to help New Zealand to a 7th place finish at the Rabobank Hockey World Cup courtesy of a shoot-out victory over Spain. New Zealand’s Kane Russell and Xavi Lleonart of Spain were both on target as the two sides finished the match locked together at 1-1, but Manchester produced fantastic saves to deny both David Alegre and Roc Oliva as the Black Sticks powered to a 4-1 in the shootout.
India Finish 9th, defeats South Korea 3-0 After two losses in their first two fixtures vs England and Belgium, India drew 1-1 with Spain. India finished their five pool matches with four points, gained from a victory over Malaysia and a draw with Spain. India finished 9th by defeating South Korea 3-0 in the 9/10 classification match . India is ranked eighth in the world and the Indians finished eighth in the
2010 World Cup. The captain of the India team, Sardar Singh, said: “Our tournament started really good, we had lots of youngsters playing and they have had to learn quickly. They are improving really quickly. Beating Korea was good, we need to do that again in
the Asia Cup to qualify for the Olympics. If we play like we did today we will continue to improve. We worked on improving our
defending, particularly after conceding in the last minutes against Belgium and England, and after those games we didn’t
concede like that again.”
Australia thrashes India 4-0
India suffered a humiliating 0-4 loss against defending champions Australia in their final group league encounter of the FIH
Men’s Hockey World Cup, in The Hague on Monday. Asserting their strength, Australia built up a four-goal lead in the initial 22 minutes, before the Indian managed to re-group themselves and put up a stronger defence there by denying the fancied rivals, a
chance of scoring any more goals. Kieran Govers opened the scoring with a field goal in the 27th minute. It was followed by three penalty corner strikers — two by Chris Ciriello and one by Jeremy Hayward.
Australia topped Group A with
maximum 15 points from five successive victories. India Won against Malaysia 3-2 Akashdeep Singh scored two goals in the space of three minutes to set up India’s 3-2 victory over Malaysia in the men’s hockey World Cup on Saturday. Jasjit Singh Kular opened the
scoring for India in the 13th minute and Malaysia equalised in the 45th with a penalty corner conversion by Mohammad Razie before Akashdeep got into the goalscoring act, which helped his team post its first win of the
India Vs Spain – 1-1
After two losses in their first two fixtures vs England and Belgium, India drew 1-1 with Spain. Rupinder Pal Singh scored the goal for India.
