BRAMPTON, ON – At today’s City Council meeting, Councillor Gurpreet Dhillon introduced a motion asking the Province of Ontario to uphold and enforce their ban on door-to-door sales. The motion passed with unanimous support. “In addition to being against provincial laws to go door-to-door to sell home services, I’m asking the provincial government to expand their existing legislation to include HVACs, water heaters and water filtration systems. This ban needs to be enforced in the City of Brampton.“Door-to-door sales tactics are aggressive and misleading and our vulnerable and unknowing residents get trapped into making bad decisions and getting stuck in complicated legal contracts,” said Councillor Dhillon. The motion looks to prohibit any door-to-door sales of air conditioners, water heaters, furnaces, water treatment devices and any other prescribed products. However, charities, non-profit organizations, real estate agents and election campaigning are except as they do not sell products or force a consumer to purchase a service.“I’m extremely proud that Brampton is following the lead of Mississauga and Markham in banning door-to-door sales,” said Councillor Dhillon. “This is a good step towards consumer protection and public safety
