Panjab University ranked best in India, beats IITs
As recent study done by The Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings has placed Panjab University, Chandigarh as the number one University in India even ahead of IITs. The Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2014 are based on the same criteria as the THE World University Rankings, powered by Thomson Reuters. We judge world class universities across all of their core missions -teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. Panjab University is placed at 32nd position among Top 100 Asian
universities. IIT KHADAGPUR is ranked 45th, IIT Kanpur is 55th, IIT Delhi (59) & IIT Roorkee(59), IIT Guwahati(74), IIT Madras(76) & Jadavpur University(76), Aligarh Muslim University(80 ) , Jawaharlal Nehru University(90). Panjab University is one of the oldest Universities in India, Established in 1882 as University of Punjab at Lahore (now in Pakistan). University campus is spread over an area of 550 acres (2.2 km2) in sectors 14 and 25 of the city of Chandigarh. Overall, it has been a significant stride by Indian universities as 10 of
them now features in “Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings 2014,” three more than last year. In fact Indian is the most improved nation in this year’s rankings by far. The 2014 rankings also feature six IITs in top 100. However, there are no Indian institutions yet to make it to the Top 10 in the Asian rankings. Japan is the number one nation with 20 representatives in the Top 100 and its University of Tokyo at the top, followed by Singapore’s National University of Singapore. But China too is not far behind with 18 of its
universities in the Top 100. The top universities rankings employ 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced
comparisons available, which are trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments.
