1. Rift between the union and Canada Post continues with union asking for two-week extension on bargaining. But Canada Post has refused it and warned the union that the entire operations will be shut down. It is being thought, starting from July 2 all work will come to a standstill. The union has proposed 24 demands including pension for future employees that still have not been resolved. If Canada Post shuts down, it will adversely affect small businesses that depend on cash flow and receive cheques in mail.
2. According to Statistics Canada, the country’s GDP edged up in April 0.1% after staying low in February and March. The reason has been growth in the manufacturing and public sectors. On annual basis in the first quarter, the economy grew by 2.4% though it got a jolt by Alberta wildfires and low energy prices. The report shown that Canadian economy is growing.
3. Special Peel police is still searching if any wrong-doing was at play in Mississauga house explosion but has not given any specific reason for it as yet. According to details, the house that was fully gutted was lived by a couple. After the fire the woman died and the man cannot be found anywhere. Yesterday Fire Chief Tim Beckett talked to media and said they are still not comfortable in asking residents to get back to their houses, for the next two days at least. The public safety department of peel police is still reviewing the situation. Peel Police Chief Jennifer Evans has said police has collecting few ‘notes’ near the blast site as part of the investigation but nothing still can be said. Meanwhile, the forensic team is also on the case.

6. Turkish officials have conducted a massive search operation identified the three bombers of Istanbul´s international airport attack this week as Russian, Uzbekistani and Kyrgyzstani. They were said to be related to ISIS. In various raids 20 people have been arrested. The recent attack killed 45 and injured 200 people.
7. Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has already said that Afghan refugees must leave by the end of this year and several ministers have called it the right decision. Talking on the issue Qadir Baluch has said Afghan refugees are occupying over one million jobs due to which Pakistani youth is struggling.
8. In the last few months relations between Pakistan and USA have deteriorated especially on the issue of F-16. Pakistan’s Foreign Office has informed US Senator John McCain will soon be coming to Pakistan and among other things the F-16 deal will also come under discussion.
9. India successfully test fired a new surface-to-air missile that has been developed jointly with Israel’s help.
10. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with his ministers to review the current situation and plan for future. It is being expected that he might bring changes in his cabinet. The meeting was also attended by BJP president Amit Shah and Arun Jaitley in whose house the meeting was held.
11. Media has been reporting that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been spending huge amounts on advertising. Rubbishing the report Kejriwal said it is wrong as his party did not spent IRs526 crore on advertising as mentioned. He explained only IRs76 crore have been used. He said the country’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi spends much more on his clothes as each of his dress costs IRs2 lakh but Modi does not wear the same clothes twice. Kejriwal also alleged that Modi changes his clothes five times during the day and so spending IRs10 lakhs only on clothes on daily basis. How can that be explained, he asked. Talking about elections in Goa, Kejriwal said out of the 40 seats, AAP will secure 35 and form government there.
12. Punjab’s Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has said drugs are not such a big issue in Punjab and the state is being defamed unnecessarily. Talking to media in Tanda Sukhbir said the state is doing everything to end this problem and as a result every youth is being asked to take a dope test so that truth comes in the forefront. He also claimed the problem of drugs in other states is much bigger than Punjab.
13. Punjab’s Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has said AAP has failed in Delhi and will fail in Punjab as well. Only the SAD-BJP coalition can help the people of this state. He said he got a large amount of fund approved from the centre and is offering a IRs500 crore annual power subsidiary to farmers as they grow crops for the entire country. He added to boost morale of people in border districts special packages are being announced as they struggled a lot after partition. Prakash Singh is holding several Sangat Darshans around Amritsar these days.
14. Congress MPs Ravneet Singh Bittu and Shamsher Singh Dullo have blamed the ruling coalition led by SAD for the growing drug problem in the state. Bittu said if his government comes in the state, the menace will be rooted out within four weeks.
15. In Punjab, a 16-year-old took out the licensed revolver of his own father Kuldip Singh and killed his mother Kulwinder Kaur for not giving him money for drugs. A day before two youngsters died in Punjab of drug overdose.
16. In Euro Cup 2016 quarter-finals, today Poland will take on Portugal. Tomorrow Wales plays against Belgium. On Saturday Germany will face Italy and on Sunday France contests against Iceland.
