Welfare schemes not reaching people: Sukhbir

Fazilka, October 7

Campaigning door-to-door in the poll-bound Jalalabad town today, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal said the Congress government was depriving the people benefits of the welfare initiated by former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

Addressing public gatherings in favour of SAD candidate Raj Singh Dibbipuria, the SAD president said people were not receiving benefits from the ongoing welfare schemes. “A large number of people have been removed from the Old-age pension scheme arbitrarily. The same is the case with the ‘Atta-dal’ scheme which is not being implemented properly. The Shagun scheme’s benefits are also not being given to newly-weds. Girl students are not getting bicycles while SC students have been denied scholarship”.

Claiming that the only achievement of the Congress was “registration of false cases and inflated power bills”, the SAD president said Congressmen had unleashed a wave of terror in the state by suppressing the common man.
