Why mum on Majithia, Cong duo asks Akalis

Chandigarh: Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar and Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu today questioned the Shiromani Akali Dal’s “double standards” on seeking action against AAP leader Sukhpal Khaira in a drug case.Addressing a press conference here, Jakhar asked, “If the Akalis are demanding action against Khaira, why not against Bikram Singh Majithia,” adding that the Congress wanted a uniform approach on the matter.“During their rule, they did not react to the Khaira case, knowing well that they themselves could be in trouble,” said Sidhu. When asked about the possibility of action against Majithia, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had said last month that the state government could not override the investigation being conducted by Central agencies into the Jagdish Bhola drug racket.Sidhu, however, claimed today that there was enough evidence of Majithia’s involvement with drug lords in the Bhola case. However, both evaded a direct reply when asked why Capt Amarinder had not yet acted against Majithia if there was enough proof. Jakhar said the government would act on the basis of the evidence.
