Will plan events in Pak for 550th Gurpurb: Longowal
Amritsar, November 27
Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, Amritsar MP Gurjeet Aujla and an SGPC delegation today crossed over to Pakistan separately through the Attari-Wagah Joint Check Post to attend the stone-laying ceremony of Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib corridor tomorrow.
The SGPC delegation comprises its president Gobind Singh Longowal, former member Bhai Uday Singh and regional manager of Golden Temple Rajinder Singh Ruby. Appreciating the governments of both sides for this “remarkable step”, Longowal said: “We will try to meet representatives of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) to find out the possibility of holding programmes in Pakistan in view of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.”
SGPC secretary Diljit Singh Bedi said besides the holy water from the Golden Temple sarovar, the SGPC would offer a set of Chandoa Sahib, Chaur Sahib and a rumala at Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib.
Sidhu said the corridor would work as a new beginning in relations between the two countries. “The seed Imran Khan sowed three months ago has become a plant. The corridor will bring infinite possibilities. The ‘ardas’ of 12 crore Sikhs has been heard and the credit goes to them. Those who fought for taking credit ended up being discredited,” he said.
Aujla took along holy water from the Golden Temple sarovar. “I will sprinkle the holy water at the ground-breaking ceremony site,” he said.
