Won’t take over PIMS:Minister

Jalandhar: Health Minister Brahm Mohindra on Thursday said the state government had no proposal yet to take over the Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS).The Congress had been critical of PIMS when in Opposition and had often termed it a white elephant.During his visit to the local Civil Hospital here, the minister was asked if there was any proposal for a new medical college in Doaba. Mohindra said: “There is no such proposal as Doaba already has PIMS. It is a good facility. If there are any discrepancies we shall look into it.”He said the government would revamp the insurance policy of the state to synchronise it with that of the Centre to facilitate the government health sector. He alleged that the insurance policy propagated by the previous SAD-BJP government was only facilitating the private sector.Mohindra said: “The absence of doctors from civil hospitals, especially in rural areas, is affected the medial services. To check this negligence, the government has decided to install the biometric attendance system in all PHCs and civil hospitals in a phased manner. Besides, CCTVs will also be installed at a cost of Rs 20 lakh till May 18.”
