Cricket is more than just a sport. It’s a global phenomenon that has brought joy to billions. Now, in Canada, cricket is stepping up to raise critical funds for cancer research. Cricket to Conquer Cancer, benefitting The Princess Margaret, will be Canada’s largest street cricket fundraiser and is set to kick off its inaugural event in May 2025.
The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation has partnered with Ethnicity Matters to create Cricket to Conquer Cancer, a fundraiser that follows in the footsteps of other hugely successful signature events. The tournament, taking place on May 31, 2025, aims to raise one million dollars towards groundbreaking cancer research.
How Can You Be a Part of It?
Cricket fans across the country are invited to form teams of 6 to 8 players and join the cause. While the cricket action happens on May 31, 2025 the fundraising begins as soon as teams sign up. The real match is to hit a donation target, with every dollar raised representing the “runs” scored for cancer research. Every bowl, strike and run will make a difference.
Each team is encouraged to meet a fundraising goal of $6,000. Over 100 teams will compete on the big day, making this the largest event of its kind in Canada. The tournament promises an unforgettable experience, featuring the T5 format, where each team gets just five overs, guaranteeing non-stop action from the very first ball.
Top fundraising teams will be able to recruit celebrity talent as well as international and national cricketers, making it a day to remember for cricket fans and supporters of cancer research alike.
While the matches will be friendly, the ultimate goal is to fund world-class cancer research at The Princess Margaret. The team with the highest donation total will be crowned the real winner of the tournament.
