Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are seeking a male suspect following a carjacking in the Town of Newmarket and have issued a warrant for his arrest.
On Monday, August 29, 2022, at approximately 7 p.m., officers were called to a veterinarian clinic in the area of Eagle Street West and Davis Drive for a report of a 78-year-old woman who had her 2015 silver Nissan Rogue stolen.
Police attended the scene and learned that the victim parked her car in a parking lot and was approached by a suspect who pushed her to the ground, took her car keys and fled the scene in the vehicle, with her shih-poo dog, named Bobby, in the front seat.
The victim sustained minor injures.
On Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at approximately 9 a.m., investigators were contacted for a report that the stolen vehicle had been returned to a neighbour’s residential driveway with Bobby the dog inside unharmed.
If you encounter the suspect, do not approach, call 9-1-1. Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police to come forward.
