In legal setback, Trump ordered to pay $5M to woman in sexual abuse case

Donald Trump has been found liable by a New York jury for sexually abusing and defaming former magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll. Although the jury rejected Carroll’s accusation of rape, it upheld her other complaints in the civil trial, awarding her $5m in damages.

The verdict marks the first time that Trump has faced legal consequences over a string of sexual assault allegations dating back decades. The former US president immediately rejected the outcome, called the case a “hoax” and “a lie”, and said he would appeal.
