Mississauga’s Red Brush Park is home to 200 new native trees and shrubs, following a community activity in honour of Earth Month.
Amazon employees from across Peel Region and the GTA gathered at the park for a planting event on Tuesday, April 18. The event was organized in partnership with The Arbor Day Foundation and One Million Trees Mississauga, which was launched to help conserve and enhance the City’s open spaces and forested areas for future generations to enjoy. Amazon also provided One Million Trees Mississauga with a cash donation of $25,000 to support native tree and shrub planting events across the city.
Throughout Earth Month, Amazon (which has 10 logistics facilities across Peel Region) has provided employees with opportunities to give back to their local communities in the spirit of The Climate Pledge, the company’s commitment to reach net zero carbon across its business by 2040.
Amazon employee Yash Gupta, who also volunteers as an Amazon Sustainability Ambassador, was one of the event’s lead organizers. “Being an Amazon Sustainability Ambassador gives me a great opportunity to make a positive impact on the environment and my community. I particularly enjoy the team building aspect of our volunteer initiatives as we grow together and create positive change,” he said.
John MacKinnon, Program Coordinator, One Million Tree Mississauga, was also on hand at the April 18 event. “The support from Amazon has been amazing for us. Not only do we have an enthusiastic team of volunteers here today planting 200 native trees and shrubs at Red Brush Park, but the generous support we have received from Amazon will help us plant an additional 1,500 native trees and shrubs across the city.”
