Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is reportedly in discussions with actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar for a large-scale historical action drama that could become one of the most ambitious projects of his career.
According to industry reports, Salman and Farhan have been holding regular meetings over the past month to explore a potential collaboration. The project is said to be a grand period epic based on one of India’s most celebrated historical figures and is being envisioned as a two-part cinematic saga.
Sources close to the development indicate that Salman has responded positively to the concept and is interested in taking the project forward. However, discussions remain at an early stage, and no formal agreements have yet been signed.
If finalized, the film would mark the first collaboration between Salman Khan and Farhan Akhtar. The project is expected to be produced under Excel Entertainment, the banner headed by Farhan Akhtar and producer Ritesh Sidhwani.
The reported historical drama is being planned on a massive scale, with the story potentially spanning two feature films. Production is expected to begin in the summer of 2027 if development progresses as planned.
The project adds to an increasingly busy slate for Salman Khan. The actor is currently shooting an untitled film directed by Vamshi Paidipally, which also stars Nayanthara. He is also expected to begin work later this year on an action-comedy from filmmaker duo Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K..
That upcoming film reportedly centres on a retiring superhero and blends action with comedy, offering a different genre from the historical epic currently under discussion.
Meanwhile, Salman’s previously announced collaboration with director Apoorva Lakhia, titled Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace, remains on hold, with no official update on its production schedule.
Should the Farhan Akhtar project move ahead, it could become one of the biggest historical productions in contemporary Indian cinema and a landmark addition to Salman Khan’s filmography.
