Two Punjabi-origin Men Arrested By Canadian Police In Connection With Firing Incident

Two men have been charged following a Surrey Police Service (SPS) investigation into a shooting outside a residence in Surrey earlier this month, as investigators continue probing suspected links to violent extortion activity.

The incident occurred on June 11, 2026, when SPS frontline officers responded shortly after 6 a.m. to reports of gunfire near 96 Avenue and 133A Street. Police determined that several shots had been fired approximately 30 minutes earlier, around 5:30 a.m., damaging the exterior of a home.

The residence was occupied at the time of the shooting, but no injuries were reported.

Following the initial investigation by SPS’s Major Crime Section, the case was transferred to the Surrey Police Service’s Extortion Response Team (ExRT), with assistance from Project Assurance and frontline officers. Investigators identified suspects and two Surrey residences connected to the case before obtaining search warrants.

On June 12, members of the Extortion Response Team, supported by the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), and other SPS units, executed the search warrants and arrested four men.

Police have since charged two of the suspects.

Arman Singh, 21, has been charged with one count of reckless discharge of a firearm.

Simarjeet Singh, 22, faces the same charge of reckless discharge of a firearm.

Both men remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in court on June 29, 2026. Police said both are foreign nationals and that the CBSA has been engaged in the investigation.

The two other men arrested during the operation have not been criminally charged and remain in CBSA custody.

As part of the ongoing investigation, Surrey Police have released photographs of Arman Singh and Simarjeet Singh, saying the move is intended to encourage witnesses, victims, or individuals with knowledge of their activities to come forward. Investigators believe additional information could help identify others connected to violent extortion networks operating in the region.

Police also reminded the public that the Surrey Extortion Reward Fund, established in September 2025, offers rewards of up to $250,000 for information leading to charges and convictions in extortion-related cases.
