Actor Ranbir Kapoor has reportedly opted out of Dhoom 4, ending months of speculation that he would headline the next installment of the blockbuster action franchise.
According to entertainment industry reports, Kapoor was initially expected to play the film’s antagonist and had remained attached to the project while awaiting creative clarity from Yash Raj Films (YRF). Earlier reports had also suggested that Ayan Mukerji was being considered to direct the film, although that plan reportedly changed after War 2.
Sources cited in the report claim Kapoor decided to step away after multiple discussions because he was not fully convinced by the script. The actor is now said to be meeting writers and filmmakers to explore other projects, with story quality remaining his top priority.
However, trade sources have disputed reports of finalized casting, stating that the script for Dhoom 4 is still under development and that no official casting decisions have been made.
If Kapoor’s departure is confirmed, YRF is expected to begin looking for a new lead once the screenplay is finalized. Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor is preparing for the release of Ramayana later this year, followed by Love & War.
