Monique Taylor nominated to be the Ontario NDP candidate for Hamilton East—Stoney Creek

Ontario NDP members in Hamilton East—Stoney Creek have nominated Monique Taylor to be the candidate for the upcoming by-election.

“I am so honoured to have the privilege to carry the Ontario NDP banner here in Hamilton East – Stoney Creek,” said Taylor. “I was born and raised in Stoney Creek. I went to school here, my brother played his hockey here, and I raised my family in the east end. I waited tables in this city, believing in the promise that working hard lets you build a good life for your family here. A promise that Doug Ford has broken for the last eight years. While Hamiltonians are struggling to afford groceries, their rent, or their mortgage, he was trying to buy himself a luxury private jet, and his Ministers are billing the taxpayer for five-star hotel stays.”

Taylor has served the people of Hamilton for 14 years as an MPP and is a relentless fighter for the city. A proven fighter for Hamilton, Taylor scored major victories as an MPP in the form of Katelynn’s Principle, forcing Doug Ford to back down on autism cuts, and holding his government accountable to Hamiltonians.

“Hamilton knows my record, and knows I don’t back down. Doug Ford’s corruption is getting in the way of making life more affordable. It’s time for change. I’m ready to take on Doug Ford and deliver for the people of Hamilton.”

Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition Ontario NDP, welcomed Taylor as the party’s candidate for Hamilton East—Stoney Creek.

“Hamilton is a special city,” said Stiles. “People here work hard, they do things the right way, and all they ask in return is a decent quality of life. For a long time, they could get a good job, afford groceries, and own a home, but Doug Ford has priced them out of the life they deserve.”

“Monique is relentless. She comes with 14 years of experience making government members answer to Hamilton. We’re excited by the opportunity to stand alongside her again, and continue our proud NDP heritage of showing up for the people of Hamilton. Doug Ford may have forgotten this community, but Ontario New Democrats will always be there for them.”
