Sonia Sidhu Marks Labour Day by Honouring Canadian Workers and Unions

Sonia Sidhu, Member of Parliament for Brampton South, today joined Canadians across the country in celebrating Labour Day and recognizing the
contributions of workers, unions, and organized labour to Canada’s prosperity and success.

“Labour Day is an opportunity to recognize the dedication, skill, and hard work of the workers who keep our communities strong and our economy moving forward,” said MP Sonia Sidhu. “From health care workers and educators to tradespeople, manufacturing employees, and small business staff, Canadian workers are at the heart of everything we achieve as a nation.”

MP Sidhu highlighted the important role unions have played in securing better wages, safer workplaces, pensions, benefits, and workplace protections for generations of Canadians.

As Canada continues to invest in major nation-building projects, including housing, transportation infrastructure, energy corridors, and critical minerals development, the federal government is committed to ensuring workers have access to the skills and opportunities needed to succeed. Through initiatives such as Team Canada Strong, the government aims to recruit, train, and hire up to 100,000 skilled trades workers by 2031 while strengthening union-led training programs across the country.

“Labour Day reminds us that when we work together, support one another, and invest in our people, there is no limit to what Canadians can accomplish.”, added MP Sonia Sidhu.
