Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the continued detention of party co-convenors Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who have been remanded to judicial custody for an additional two days following their appearance before a Special Executive Magistrate in New Delhi.
The two leaders, who have already spent five days in jail, appeared before a newly appointed Special Executive Magistrate at the Mandir Marg police station on Monday. According to an official, authorities extended their judicial remand by another two days.
Reacting to the development, Dipke took to social media platform X to condemn the continued detention, suggesting that the two leaders were being punished for expressing their views and refusing to retreat from their political stance.
In his post, Dipke claimed that Das and Ranka had been targeted for waving the Indian national flag during a demonstration at Jantar Mantar. He maintained that despite spending five days behind bars, both leaders remained determined and appeared in court with smiles on their faces.
Dipke, who was himself granted bail on Saturday following proceedings at the Special Executive Magistrate Court in Mandir Marg, praised the resilience of his party colleagues and reiterated his criticism of the authorities.
The extended custody of Das and Ranka has prompted renewed objections from the CJP leadership, which continues to question the circumstances surrounding their detention.
