Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has emphasized the need to strengthen diplomatic and strategic relations with India and other international partners, warning that Israel could face a less supportive U.S. administration in the coming years.
Speaking at an event ahead of Israel’s October 27 election, Netanyahu expressed concerns that a future American president could adopt policies hostile to Israel, potentially affecting military assistance and the longstanding strategic partnership between the two countries.
The Israeli leader urged his government to take advantage of its current relationship with U.S. President Donald Trump while preparing for possible changes in Washington’s foreign policy. He stressed that Israel must diversify its international partnerships to reduce its dependence on American support.
Netanyahu specifically identified India as a major strategic partner, highlighting its growing global influence and the importance of expanding cooperation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. He also pointed to emerging political developments in Latin America, particularly Brazil, as potential opportunities for Israel to establish stronger diplomatic relationships.
The remarks came shortly before Trump publicly endorsed Netanyahu’s re-election campaign, offering support to the Israeli prime minister just days before voters head to the polls.
Netanyahu maintained that Israel must broaden its network of international allies while strengthening its economic, technological and military capabilities to remain strategically valuable to other nations, regardless of political developments in the United States.
The Israeli prime minister has repeatedly highlighted his relationship with Modi as evidence of Israel’s ability to maintain influential international partnerships despite growing diplomatic criticism and concerns about its isolation on the global stage.
Earlier in May, Netanyahu described India as a major global power with which Israel shares a distinctive relationship, reinforcing his government’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation.
His latest comments reflect a broader effort to safeguard Israel’s diplomatic and security interests against potential shifts in American leadership while positioning India as an increasingly important partner in Israel’s long-term foreign policy strategy.
