Celebrate Black History and Family Day at PAMA this February!

BRAMPTON, ON  (Jan. 31, 2022) – Celebrate Black History at the Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA) in February by exploring the exhibition Our Voices, Our Journeys and participating in a series of special events planned throughout the month.  Take the entire family to PAMA’s annual free Family Day event and join us on a cosmic journey with special guests Applefun puppetry!

Our Voices, Our Journeys

On now to March 2024

This exhibition is a celebration of one of many black communities in Peel Region. It highlights the personal journeys of leaders and mentors from the North Peel Community Church congregation. Their photos and objects illustrate stories of immigration and family life, and how they established a community of faith in Caledon.

What’s on in February

In celebration of Black History Month, PAMA presents these events in partnership with Brampton Library:

Thursday, Feb. 1, 7 – 8:30 p.m.

Location: Four Corners Library, 65 Queen St. East, Brampton

Join Shakkoi Hibbert, spoken-word poet, dancer, and author in this unique poetry session inspired by her book, Poems of Pain and Power.

Free admission. Registration is required at bramptonlibrary.ca.

Monday, Feb. 5, 7 – 8:30 p.m.

Location: Springdale Library, 10705 Bramalea Rd., Brampton

Motivational speaker, Stacy-Ann Buchanan will discuss how living a ‘balanced life’ puts pressure on women to give equally in all areas and at all times, which ultimately prioritizes end results rather than prioritizing how they feel throughout the experience.

Free admission. Registration is required at bramptonlibrary.ca.

Saturday, Feb. 10, 2 – 3 p.m.

Location: PAMA, 9 Wellington St. East, Brampton

With movements inspired by the Art Gallery, immerse yourself in the rhythm of Afro-Caribbean beats – Soca, Amapiano, Reggae, Afro beats, and more – as we groove through beginner to moderate dance fitness.

Recommended for ages 12+. Registration is required. Public $7.75 (general admission included in this price), Members $1.50.

Figuration Life Drawing

Saturday, Feb. 24, 1 – 4:30 p.m.
