Music legend Sir Elton John is celebrating an early Christmas milestone as his beloved festive classic Step Into Christmas has officially gone platinum in the United States. The song, first released in 1973, has also achieved four-times platinum status in the UK, reaffirming its enduring popularity more than five decades after its debut.
The 78-year-old singer shared his excitement on social media, posing with plaques marking the achievement and calling it a “special Christmas present.” Elton said it was particularly meaningful to see a song released over 50 years ago continue to be part of holiday traditions, noting that Step Into Christmas has once again secured a spot in the UK Singles Chart’s Top 10 for the festive season. The track is set to rank ninth on Christmas Day, just behind Kelly Clarkson’s Underneath the Tree, while Kylie Minogue’s Xmas has claimed the top position.
Thanking fans for their continued support, Elton expressed gratitude to those who return to the song year after year. Recently, the singer also shared an Instagram video filmed in his kitchen, set to the festive hit, though the post drew some unexpected criticism about cleanliness. Elton later addressed the remarks directly, firmly dismissing claims about a “dirty” kitchen and insisting he takes cleanliness very seriously, adding that he has never been a messy person.
