Eurostar halts all Europe services during peak holiday travel after channel tunnel power failure

Eurostar has suspended all train services across Europe during the busy holiday travel period between Christmas and New Year, with key routes — including London to Paris — brought to a standstill.

The disruption began Tuesday after a power supply failure inside the Channel Tunnel, triggering widespread delays and cancellations, according to AFP.

A Eurostar spokesperson said the outage caused a shuttle train to stop inside the tunnel, prompting the suspension of all journeys to and from London until further notice.

As services between London, Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels were cancelled, hundreds of passengers were left stranded at major stations, scrambling to find alternative travel options amid one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.

Images from Paris’s Gare du Nord showed crowds gathering near idle Eurostar trains as the disruption unfolded. Authorities have not yet provided a timeline for the full restoration of services.
