Dense fog and adverse weather conditions disrupted flight operations across northern India on Monday, prompting major airlines including IndiGo, SpiceJet and Air India to issue travel advisories and warn passengers of delays and cancellations.
IndiGo said foggy conditions continued to affect visibility at Delhi airport and several other northern hubs, slowing flight movements throughout the day. The airline noted that earlier disruptions were expected to extend into the afternoon, with delays likely to persist as conditions remained challenging.
Earlier on Monday, IndiGo cancelled around 80 flights across its network due to bad weather, according to information on its website. Nearly half of the cancellations were at Delhi airport, with the rest involving routes to and from cities such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kochi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Dehradun, Indore, Patna and Bhopal.
As evening fog began settling over Dehradun, IndiGo said operations were slowing further. The airline said ground teams were assisting passengers and coordinating closely with airport authorities to restore smoother operations as soon as weather conditions improve.
Air India also cautioned travellers that departures and arrivals could be affected on Tuesday, Dec. 30, due to poor visibility linked to bad weather. The airline said disruptions were possible at airports including Delhi, Amritsar, Jammu, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Darbhanga, Patna, Guwahati and Bagdogra, urging passengers to regularly check their flight status.
The latest advisories come as thick fog and severe smog continue to blanket parts of North India, reducing visibility and complicating air travel during one of the busiest periods of the winter season.
