Navjot Kaur Sidhu attacks Punjab congress leaders — 500 crore for Punjab CM’s post, issue explodes

Navjot Kaur Sidhu has been suspended by the Congress party just days after her controversial comment claiming that “the one who gives a suitcase of ₹500 crore becomes the Chief Minister.” The remark, which she made after being asked why her husband Navjot Singh Sidhu had not returned to frontline politics, triggered a political storm across Punjab and gave rivals fresh grounds to accuse Congress of internal money-driven politics.

She suggested that Sidhu would only re-enter active electoral life if the party formally declared him its chief ministerial candidate for 2027, adding that they did not possess the ₹500 crore allegedly needed to secure the post.

Though Navjot Kaur later attempted to clarify her position on social media—stating that her comment had been distorted and that the Congress had not demanded money from them—the leadership reportedly remained dissatisfied.

The uproar was amplified by the Aam Aadmi Party, which asked whether the alleged “₹500 crore suitcase” was tied to the high command or Rahul Gandhi, while BJP leaders Sunil Jakhar and Tarun Chugh said her remark confirmed their claims of “institutionalised corruption” within Congress. Senior Congress leader Sukhjinder Randhawa condemned the Sidhus’ actions as anti-party behaviour, ultimately culminating in her formal suspension.
