Indian cricket star and recent Women’s World Cup champion Smriti Mandhana has confirmed that she is set to marry longtime partner and singer Palash Muchhal, marking the start of another major celebration for the national women’s team.
The announcement comes shortly after India’s World Cup triumph, with wedding preparations already underway. Muchhal proposed to Mandhana at Mumbai’s Dr. DY Patil Stadium — the same venue where India clinched the Women’s World Cup title against South Africa. According to viral footage circulating online, Muchhal blindfolded Mandhana, walked with her to the centre of the pitch, and then went down on one knee with a bouquet in hand. Mandhana accepted immediately, drawing emotional reactions from fans across social media.
Pre-wedding festivities have also begun, with images from the couple’s haldi ceremony widely shared online. Several members of the Indian women’s team — including Arundhati Reddy, Radha Yadav, Shreyanka Patil, Jemimah Rodrigues and Shafali Verma — were seen participating in the celebrations. Mandhana and Muchhal are set to marry on November 23, 2025.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi publicly congratulated the couple following their announcement, noting their upcoming “new beginning” and playfully suggesting a friendly cricket match between “Team Bride” and “Team Groom.”
Mandhana was a standout performer in the 2025 Women’s World Cup. Despite a slow start, she regained form quickly and delivered consistent performances throughout the tournament. She finished as India’s leading run-scorer, amassing 434 runs in nine innings at an average of 54.25, including crucial contributions in the final.
