One of the foremost Indian ghazal singers and composers with more than 30 albums to his credit, Hariharan is also a popular playback singer in the Indian film industry with hits in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Odia, Marathi, and Bengali languages. Hariharan will perform with his band, featuring Akshay Hariharan with a high-voltage EDM section accompanied by three renowned singers—Reewa Rathod, Chandreyee Bhattacharya, and Lavanya Padmanabhan.
Known for his distinctive soulful voice, Hariharan’s music is so well-loved he has won the Padma Shri Award and two National Awards for his music.
Hariharan formed the band Colonial Cousins with Mumbai-based composer and singer Leslie Lewis in 1996. Their first album, Colonial Cousins, was a fusion album and was the first Indian act to be featured on MTV Unplugged. It won a string of awards including the MTV Indian Viewers’ Choice Award and the Billboard Award for the best Asian music group. By this single album, Hariharan established himself as one of the pioneers of Indian fusion music.
In 2023, Hariharan and the late Gulshan Kumar recorded “Hanuman Chalisa” together, and the video has over three billion views on YouTube, making it the first devotional song in the world to do so. Watch the video here.
