Trump issues pardons to Giuliani, meadows and others tied to 2020 election challenges

U.S. President Donald Trump has granted pardons to Rudy Giuliani, his former personal attorney, as well as former chief of staff Mark Meadows and several other allies who supported efforts to dispute the results of the 2020 election. The information comes from a Justice Department official.

Ed Martin, the government’s pardon attorney, shared a signed proclamation announcing a “full, complete, and unconditional” pardon for those listed. Conservative lawyers Sidney Powell and John Eastman were also included. However, the proclamation makes clear that Trump himself is not covered by the pardon.

Although the individuals named had not been charged with federal crimes, presidential pardons apply only to federal offences. The move highlights Trump’s continued attempts to influence the public narrative around the election he lost to Joe Biden.
The White House has not yet returned a request for comment.
