York Region Issues Measles Exposure Warning Linked to Toronto Pearson Airport and Air Canada Flight

York Region Public Health is alerting residents about a potential measles exposure at Toronto Pearson International Airport on July 30, following confirmation of a measles case in the region.

Officials say the exposure may have occurred in Terminal 1 between 7:33 p.m. and 11 p.m., and is also linked to Air Canada Flight AC 8881 from Newark, New Jersey, which arrived at Pearson at 7:33 p.m. after departing at 5:10 p.m.

Public health is asking anyone who was at either location during those times to monitor themselves for symptoms until August 20. Passengers on the flight are urged to complete an online follow-up survey at york.ca/measlesreporting to help assess their risk.

Residents should also confirm that they and their family members have received two doses of the measles vaccine, which remains one of the safest and most effective ways to prevent serious illness.

Measles symptoms may include cough, runny nose, fever, red watery eyes, and white spots inside the mouth, followed by a rash. If symptoms develop, public health advises staying home and calling a health professional in advance to prevent potential spread. York Region Public Health can be reached at 1-877-464-9675 ext. 77280, seven days a week.

Officials note that measles is highly contagious and can be dangerous, especially for infants, pregnant individuals, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms typically appear seven to 21 days after exposure.
