On Saturday May 27, 2023, just after 7:00pm, emergency services were called to an address near the intersection of Speers Road and Third Line in the town of Oakville after a 3-year-old boy was pulled from a backyard pool without vital signs.
There had been a celebratory gathering of several adults and children at a private residence and the child had gone underwater and apparently undetected for an undetermined period of time.
Lifesaving measures were immediately commenced by adults present and continued by emergency services personnel.
Despite efforts to the revive the child, sadly he was pronounced deceased at hospital. Police will not be releasing the name of the child or further details of those who attended the gathering.
All deaths involving children under 5 years of age become the mandate of the Halton Regional Police Service’s Homicide Bureau who have commenced their investigation together with the Coroner’s Office. At this time no charges have been laid, and police have determined there to be no criminality however the investigation is ongoing.
