Mayor Patrick Brown’s statement on fatal shooting near elementary school

“On behalf of Brampton City Council, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families, friends and loved ones of the victims whose lives were tragically taken by a senseless act of gun violence near an elementary school last night.

While this incident is not connected to the school itself and there is no threat to public safety, any act of gun violence is one too many. We recognize how unsettling incidents like this are and the impact they can have on our community, and our priority remains the safety and wellbeing of our city.

I want to thank Peel Regional Police and all first responders for their swift response and continued professionalism as this investigation continues. I encourage anyone with information about this incident to come forward and assist police.

This incident is a stark reminder of the ongoing need for all levels of government to work together to address illegal firearms and enhance public safety. The City of Brampton remains committed to working closely with Peel Regional Police, and our provincial and federal partners to keep our community safe.

Our thoughts remain with the families affected, and with all those in our community who are feeling the weight of this tragedy today.”
