Air India is expanding its Canadian network for the 2026-27 winter season with the launch of a new non-stop route between Toronto and Mumbai, alongside upgraded aircraft and cabin products on its Toronto-Delhi service.
The airline will introduce a seasonal Toronto-Mumbai service beginning October 25, 2026, with three flights per week operating through March 26, 2027.
Air India says the new route will make it the only airline offering direct service between Toronto and Mumbai. The flights are expected to add nearly 2,000 seats per week between Canada and India.
The Toronto-Mumbai route will operate using upgraded Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The planes will feature eight First Class suites equipped with sliding privacy doors, 40 lie-flat Business Class seats and 280 Economy Class seats. Wi-Fi connectivity will also be available onboard.
The expansion comes as Air India increases its overall capacity between Canada and India. The carrier expects to add approximately 4,400 seats per month during the winter season while increasing premium-seat capacity from Toronto by 71 per cent.
Toronto-Delhi Flights Receive New Boeing 787-9 Aircraft
Air India is also introducing its new Boeing 787-9 aircraft on flights between Toronto and Delhi, giving Canadian passengers access to the airline’s latest cabin experience.
The carrier currently plans to operate 10 flights per week between Toronto and Delhi during the winter season.
Seven of those weekly services will use the new Boeing 787-9 aircraft featuring Air India’s latest cabin interiors. The remaining three flights will initially operate with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
Beginning in January 2027, Air India plans to transition those remaining services to the 787-9 as additional aircraft enter its fleet.
Once the transition is completed, all Air India flights operating to and from Toronto are expected to feature either new or substantially upgraded cabin interiors.
The airline says the deployment of new and refurbished aircraft will also increase the availability of premium seating, including First Class, Business Class and Premium Economy options.
More Connections Across India
Passengers travelling from Toronto through Air India’s hubs in Mumbai and Delhi will have access to onward connections to several major Indian cities.
Destinations include Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Ludhiana and Vadodara.
Air India Chief Commercial Officer Nipun Aggarwal described Canada as one of the carrier’s most important international markets, citing strong travel demand supported by close connections between people in the two countries.
Aggarwal said the seasonal Toronto-Mumbai route will provide passengers with greater choice and convenience, particularly during the busy festive and holiday travel period when many people travel to visit family and friends.
He added that Air India’s introduction of newer aircraft and upgraded onboard products to its North American network reflects the airline’s broader effort to strengthen its position in the competitive long-haul market.
The Toronto expansion forms part of Air India’s wider strategy to modernize its international operations and strengthen connectivity between India and major global markets.
