AAP wins Punjab bypolls: Gidderbaha, Chabbewal, and Dera Baba Nanak seats; Congress secures Barnala with Kuldeep Singh Dhillon

23 Nov: In the recently concluded Punjab Assembly by-elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claimed a significant victory by winning three out of the four contested seats. The party triumphed in Gidderbaha, Chabbewal, and Dera Baba Nanak constituencies, previously considered Congress strongholds. Congress, however, managed to retain the Barnala seat with candidate Kuldeep Singh Dhillon securing the victory.

The by-elections were necessitated after the sitting legislators were elected to the Lok Sabha earlier this year. These wins bring AAP’s strength in the Punjab Assembly to 94 members, reinforcing the party’s influence in the state.

AAP Celebrations in Chandigarh

Following the victory, AAP leaders and workers gathered at the party headquarters in Chandigarh to celebrate. They distributed sweets and congratulated each other on the party’s success. Prominent leaders, including Minister Harjot Bains, MLA Kulwant Singh, and state general secretary Jagroop Singh Sekhwan, were present during the celebrations.

AAP National Convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed gratitude to the people of Punjab for their continued support. “The people of Punjab have reaffirmed their trust in AAP’s ideology and governance. Winning three out of four seats is a testament to our commitment to delivering on promises,” said Kejriwal.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann also extended his congratulations to the people of Punjab and the party’s workers. “This victory is a result of our tireless efforts to prioritize the progress and prosperity of Punjab. We remain committed to fulfilling every promise made to the people,” said Mann.

Acknowledgments and Leadership Appreciation

AAP’s national organization secretary Sandeep Pathak, Punjab in-charge Jarnail Singh, and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha also thanked voters and acknowledged the efforts of party workers. Pathak attributed the victory to the dedication and hard work of the party’s grassroots teams, while Jarnail Singh noted that the results reflected the public’s satisfaction with the governance of the Mann-led government.

Raghav Chadha remarked on the growing trust in AAP’s leadership under Kejriwal and Mann, emphasizing that the party’s welfare policies have resonated strongly with the people of Punjab. AAP’s Punjab president Aman Arora credited the win to the collective effort of party members and the visionary leadership of Arvind Kejriwal.

Congress Retains Barnala

In Barnala, Congress candidate Kuldeep Singh Dhillon successfully held onto the seat, ensuring that the party maintained its presence in the Punjab Assembly amidst AAP’s overwhelming success in the bypolls. This victory is seen as a morale booster for Congress, which faced tough competition from AAP in the state.

Looking Ahead

AAP’s sweeping victory in the bypolls highlights the party’s growing dominance in Punjab politics, while Congress’s win in Barnala indicates its continued relevance in the state’s political landscape. The results also showcase the dynamic electoral environment of Punjab, setting the stage for future political developments.
