Amanda Yeung Collucci Launches Campaign for Regional Councillor —Proven Leadership, Fresh Energy and Diverse Voices for Markham’s Next Era

Three-term Markham Councillor Amanda Yeung Collucci officially launched her campaign for Regional Councillor today, joined by residents, business and community leaders, current and former elected officials, and supporters from across Markham.

After 12 years of service on Markham City Council, Collucci is seeking one of Markham’s four Regional Councillor seats with a message of proven experience, fresh leadership and stronger representation of the diverse voices that make up modern Markham.

“Markham is entering a new era, and the leadership around the decision-making table should reflect the people we serve. That means different experiences, different perspectives, stronger female leadership and ensuring the many communities that make Markham successful have a meaningful voice.”

“My priorities are straightforward: protecting affordability and keeping taxes low, safer roads and communities, strong policing, responsible growth, environmental leadership and a competitive economy that creates opportunities for the next generation.”

Proven Leadership. A Fresh Perspective.

First elected in 2014, Collucci made history as the first Chinese woman elected to Markham City Council. She has since been re-elected twice and has taken on leadership responsibilities spanning municipal finance, economic development, sustainability and community building.

She currently serves as Chair of Environmental and Sustainability, Vice-Chair of Economic Development and Culture, and Vice-Chair of Markham Enterprise Corporation. She previously served as Chair of Markham’s Budget Committee.

Her leadership experience began long before entering politics.

Before being elected, Collucci spent approximately a decade at IBM in client management before becoming an award-winning entrepreneur.

Collucci possesses a rare blend of more than 30 years of enterprise and public-sector experience, spanning corporate leadership, entrepreneurship and elected public service. With a proven record of leadership and results, she is ready to take on a greater leadership role and help shape Markham’s next era.

“Markham should not have to choose between experience and change. We can have both. We can bring proven experience to York Region while bringing new energy, new ideas and more diverse voices to the table.”

A Stronger Female Voice at the Table

Collucci said her candidacy is also about ensuring women and Markham’s diverse communities have a meaningful voice in the decisions shaping the city’s future.

“Women bring important perspectives to public decision-making — whether we are talking about affordability, families, community safety, transportation, seniors, economic opportunity or the quality of life in our neighbourhoods.”

“But this is bigger than gender. Markham is one of Canada’s most diverse communities. Diversity should not simply describe our population — it should be reflected in the experiences and perspectives around the decision-making table.”

“Different experiences make the decision-making table stronger. Leadership is about bringing those perspectives together, finding common ground and getting results.”

A Coalition Reflecting Modern Markham

Collucci’s campaign has brought together a broad coalition of support from across Markham, including current and former elected officials, business and innovation leaders, community organizations, neighbourhood advocates, long-time residents and supporters from across the city’s diverse communities.

The coalition reflects a growing consolidation of community support behind Collucci’s Regional Councillor bid, crossing neighbourhoods, cultures, generations and professional backgrounds.

Supporters point to her 12 years of proven municipal leadership, extensive business and entrepreneurial experience, ability to bring people together and record of getting results as reasons for backing her campaign.

The coalition extends beyond those providing formal written endorsements. Together, the campaign’s endorsers, speakers and supporters reflect the breadth of modern Markham — current and former public officials, business and innovation leaders, long-time residents, neighbourhood advocates, women leaders and voices from across the city’s multicultural communities.

“This coalition reflects the Markham I know. Different cultures. Different generations. Women and men. Business and innovation leaders, community advocates and residents from neighbourhoods across our city.”

“We may have different backgrounds, but we share the same aspirations for Markham — safe neighbourhoods, affordability, better transportation, good jobs, responsible growth and opportunities for our children.”

“Leadership is not about dividing people into communities. It is about listening to those communities, bringing people together and building a shared future.”

“Building coalitions and bringing people together has always been at the heart of how I lead. That is the approach I will take to York Region — one Markham, moving forward together.”

Business Experience. Public-Sector Results.

Collucci said her combination of enterprise and public-sector experience will be particularly important as Markham and York Region confront the pressures and opportunities associated with rapid growth.

Her career — from IBM, to entrepreneurship, to 12 years of elected public service — has shaped her belief that government must remain fiscally responsible while creating the conditions for investment, innovation and job creation.

Her work has also included building partnerships that position Markham on the international stage. In 2026, Markham welcomed the FIRA RoboWorld Cup to Canada for the first time, bringing international robotics teams, innovators and young people together in the city.

“We need to grow, but we need to grow intelligently. Infrastructure must keep pace with development. Transportation must improve. Businesses need an environment where they can invest and create jobs. And every dollar government spends ultimately comes from the people we serve.”

“I also want Markham to continue looking outward — attracting investment, technology, talent and international opportunities that create lasting benefits here at home.”

Shaping Markham’s Next Era

Collucci said her campaign will focus on delivering the practical results residents expect from municipal and regional government — keeping taxes low, improving road safety, strengthening policing and community safety, protecting the environment, improving transportation and ensuring growth is properly planned.

“Families are already dealing with rising costs. Government has a responsibility to be disciplined with taxpayers’ money. Throughout my years on Council, including my experience leading Markham’s budget process, I have always believed that we must deliver high-quality services while keeping taxes as low as responsibly possible.”

Keeping Taxes Low & Protecting Affordability

Maintaining strong fiscal discipline, finding efficiencies and delivering value for every taxpayer dollar while protecting the essential services residents depend on.

Road Safety & Transportation

Making streets safer for drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, children and seniors; addressing speeding and dangerous driving; and improving the transportation network residents rely on every day.

Policing & Community Safety

Supporting effective policing, strengthening partnerships with York Regional Police, and ensuring residents feel safe in their homes, neighbourhoods, businesses and public spaces.

Smart & Responsible Growth

Ensuring roads, transit, parks, emergency services and other infrastructure keep pace with new development so growth strengthens communities rather than overwhelming them.

Environmental Leadership

Protecting Markham’s natural environment, advancing practical sustainability initiatives and ensuring environmental responsibility remains part of long-term planning and growth.

Economic Development & Jobs

Attracting investment, supporting local businesses, encouraging innovation and creating jobs and opportunities for residents and the next generation.

“Regional government touches people’s lives every day — the roads they travel, the police services that keep their communities safe, the infrastructure their families depend on and the taxes they pay. These are not abstract issues. They directly affect the quality of life of every resident.”

“My approach is practical: keep taxes low, keep our communities safe, make our roads safer, protect our environment and plan responsibly for growth. At the same time, we must continue attracting investment, innovation and good jobs so Markham remains one of the best places in Canada to live, work and raise a family.”

“This election is about more than the next four years. It is about the Markham we are building for the next generation.”

“Our city has changed. Our challenges have changed. And our leadership must continue to evolve.”

“After 12 years of serving residents at City Hall, I am ready to bring my experience, business background, fresh perspective and a strong female voice to York Region.”

“Markham has given me the extraordinary privilege of serving for the past 12 years. Now I am asking residents across our city for the opportunity to serve them as Regional Councillor — and to help shape Markham’s next era together.”

Our Home. Our Future. Together, We Will Shape Markham’s Next Era.
