The Indian government has denied any role in the blocking of BBC News Punjabi’s Twitter account in India.
BBC News Punjabi’s Twitter account was reinstated on Tuesday after several hours of suspension.
“We have received a legal removal demand from the Government of India regarding your Twitter account,” Twitter wrote in an email to the BBC.
The BBC had sent an email to the Government of India asking about the action to block the Twitter account of BBC Punjabi.
“The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has not written about blocking the Twitter account of BBC News Punjabi,” an official of the government wrote in response to the email.
“Ministry has shared your complaint/email with Twitter for clarification,” he said. You can contact Twitter directly about this.”
