Argentina defeats Canada 2-0, reaches Copa America final

Argentina triumphed over Canada with a 2-0 victory on Tuesday night at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, securing their spot in the Copa América final. Goals from Julián Álvarez and Lionel Messi propelled the defending champions forward.

Álvarez opened the scoring in the first half with a precise finish, while Messi added a second goal shortly after halftime. This marked Messi’s first goal in this year’s Copa, bringing his career total to 109, tying him for second place with Iran’s Ali Daei. Cristiano Ronaldo holds the record for most international goals in men’s soccer history with 130.

Argentina had previously defeated Canada by the same scoreline in the group stage, finishing Group A with a perfect record after victories over Chile and Peru. In the quarterfinals, Lionel Scaloni’s team advanced past Ecuador through a penalty shootout.

The reigning World Cup champions will face either Colombia or Uruguay in the final, set to take place on Sunday in Miami Gardens, Florida.
