Sonia Sidhu highlighted an increase to the Canada Child Benefit (CCB), which will provide additional tax-free support to millions of Canadian families beginning this month. The enhanced benefit will help parents manage the rising costs of everyday essentials, including groceries, clothing, school supplies, and childcare.
Starting in July 2026, eligible families can receive up to $8,157 annually for each child under the age of six and up to $6,883 annually for each child aged six to 17. This represents an increase of up to $160 per child under six and $135 per child aged six to 17 compared to the previous benefit year.
Across Canada, the Canada Child Benefit supports approximately 3.6 million families caring for six million children, providing nearly $30 billion in annual tax-free payments. Since its introduction, the CCB has helped lift hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty while ensuring more money reaches families who need it most.
“Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, and every parent deserves support as they work hard to provide for their family. The Canada Child Benefit has made a difference in the lives of families in Brampton South and across the country. These increased payments will help parents keep up with everyday expenses and ensure children have the resources they need to succeed. Our government remains committed to making life more affordable and
building a stronger future for Canadian families.” – Said Sonia Sidhu
The Canada Child Benefit is a monthly tax-free payment that provides support to low- and middle-income families with children. The benefit amount is based on factors such as family income, the number of children in care, and their ages. To ensure families continue to receive predictable support, the CCB has been indexed annually to inflation since 2018. Families are encouraged to ensure their tax returns are filed on time each year to continue receiving their Canada Child Benefit payments without interruption.
