Starting June 20, eligible Canadians can apply for the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) — a new federal initiative designed to offer financial support to working-age adults living with disabilities.
Who Can Apply?
The benefit is available to Canadians aged 18 to 64 who meet specific criteria, including:
- Being approved for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC)
- Filing a 2024 income tax return, or having a spouse or common-law partner who has filed theirs
- Meeting income-related eligibility thresholds
In June, the government will begin mailing personalized letters to eligible individuals. These letters will include a unique application code and detailed instructions.
Even if you don’t receive a letter, you may still be eligible. In that case, you can apply by submitting your mailing address and net income (line 23600) from your 2024 Notice of Assessment.
How to Apply
You can submit your application:
- Online
- By phone
- In person at a Service Canada office
You’ll need:
- Your Social Insurance Number (SIN)
- Direct deposit details (used for faster and more secure payments)
Community organizations across Canada will be available to help applicants through the process, including with DTC applications if needed.
If your application is approved by June 30, you could receive your first payment in July.
How Much Will You Get?
The maximum benefit is $2,400 per year (or $200 per month), starting July 2025 to June 2026.
Key details:
- The amount depends on your adjusted family net income
- It will increase yearly with inflation
- Payments won’t decrease, even if inflation slows
- You may be eligible for retroactive payments of up to 24 months — but not for any time before July 2025
