Toronto, March, 2025 – The British High Commissioner to Canada, Mr. Rob Tinline, and the British Consul General in Toronto, Ms. Fouzia Younis, MBE, co-hosted the mission’s first-ever Commonwealth Iftar to honor the Muslim community and celebrate the values of unity, peace, and equality.
Bringing together over 60 guests from the GTA’s Muslim community, the event reinforced the strong cultural and religious diversity shared by the UK and Canada.
High Commissioner Rob Tinline emphasized, “This iftar is a testament to our shared values and commitment to fostering community ties. The UK is proud to be part of the Commonwealth’s family of nations.”
Consul General Fouzia Younis added, “The UK is proud to be a country which is home to many faiths and is made stronger and more vibrant through this diversity. Our Commonwealth Iftar allowed us to represent all of the UK to all of Canada.”
The event took place ahead of Commonwealth Day on March 10, which this year celebrates the theme ‘Together We Thrive’. The Commonwealth, comprising 56 independent member countries, continues to promote democracy, human rights, and sustainable development while driving prosperity through trade and cooperation.
