Delhi CM Kejriwal to meet Lieutenant Governor amid resignation rumors; who will succeed him after stepping down?

Amid growing speculation about his successor, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is scheduled to meet Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena and submit his resignation at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader announced his decision to resign, stating, “I will not return to the Chief Minister’s chair until the public certifies my honesty.” Kejriwal’s resignation comes as a significant political development, raising questions about who will take over his role.

In preparation for his departure, Kejriwal convened a high-level meeting of the party’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC) at his official residence on Monday. The meeting focused on selecting an interim Chief Minister to lead the party for the next five months.

AAP senior leader and minister Saurabh Bharadwaj confirmed that Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena has agreed to meet with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Bharadwaj explained that during a recent high-level meeting, Kejriwal consulted with each member of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) and other ministers to gather their feedback on selecting a new Chief Minister for Delhi.

On Tuesday, an AAP Legislative Party meeting will be held, where Kejriwal will present the discussions from the PAC meeting to the MLAs. A decision regarding the new Chief Minister will be made at this meeting.

The PAC meeting was attended by Ministers Atishi, Gopal Rai, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Kailash Gahlot, and several reserved category MLAs, including Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly Rakhi Birla. Senior AAP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was also present.
