June 21: Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating the discovery of four deceased individuals in the town of Harrow, just south of Windsor. Essex OPP officers responded to a residence on County Road 13 around 1:30 p.m. on June 20, where they found the bodies.
The identities and causes of death have not been confirmed, but officials believe there is no immediate threat to public safety. However, the OPP urges the public to remain vigilant about their personal safety. Essex Mayor Sherry Bondy revealed that the victims included a man, a woman, and two children. Due to the ongoing investigation, specific details cannot be disclosed at this time.
Derek Rogers, West Region media relations coordinator, described the event as tragic, emphasizing its profound impact on the officers and the community. Postmortem examinations will be conducted at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in London.
The investigation is being led by the Essex County OPP Crime Unit under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch. They are receiving assistance from OPP Forensic Identification Services and are working closely with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Residents can expect a significant police presence in the area for several days.
The community is in mourning, with flags at municipal buildings in Essex, Colchester, and Harrow lowered to honor the lives lost. Mayor Bondy expressed her shock and grief, highlighting the close-knit nature of Harrow and the deep impact of the tragedy, especially involving children. She noted that the family was active in the community, and the town is mobilizing support for its residents.
Bondy also shared her personal anguish, stating that nothing could prepare her for such a tragedy and expressing her preference for natural disasters over such violent acts. On her Facebook page, Bondy encouraged those in need of support to reach out to the Canadian Mental Health Association.
