Hamas Chief Ismail Haniyeh And Bodyguard Killed In Tehran Attack, Confirms Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps

30 July: Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed in an attack on his residence in Tehran, as confirmed by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC’s Public Relations Department stated that the incident occurred early Wednesday and that an investigation is underway to determine the cause.

The IRGC expressed condolences to the people of Palestine, the Muslim world, and the fighters of the Resistance Front over Haniyeh’s death. Hamas released a statement attributing the attack to an “Israeli” raid and vowed that the “cowardly” assassination would not go unanswered, according to Mousa Abu Marzook, a member of Hamas’ political bureau.

Haniyeh had attended the inauguration of Iran’s new president and met with Iran’s Supreme Leader just hours before the attack. During his meeting with President Masoud Pezeshkian, Haniyeh had praised Tehran’s support for Hamas and Palestine.
