25 Jan: The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) has issued a 72-hour strike notice to Canadian National Railway (CN), stating that approximately 750 signal and communications employees will go on strike starting Tuesday, January 28, if a settlement is not reached.
The union, which has received a 95 percent strike mandate from its members, is pushing for improved work-life balance and higher wages.
In response, CN acknowledged the strike notice and assured that contingency plans are in place to minimize disruptions. The company emphasized its commitment to maintaining the supply chain and ensuring smooth operations despite the potential labor action.
Negotiations are ongoing, and the union remains hopeful for a resolution before the strike deadline.
