India Receives 2 Million Barrels Of Iranian Oil Under U.S. Sanctions Waiver

India has received approximately two million barrels of Iranian crude oil since late March, marking a notable development in global energy flows amid shifting geopolitical dynamics.

According to reports, the shipment was facilitated through a sanctions waiver issued by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, allowing limited transactions involving Iranian oil exports.

The authorization, granted by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), permits the purchase, delivery, and unloading of crude oil and petroleum products from Iran that were loaded on or before March 20, with the waiver remaining valid until April 19.

The development comes as India resumes oil imports from Iran for the first time since 2019, when the United States ended earlier exemptions tied to its sanctions regime.

The move signals a potential recalibration in energy trade as global markets respond to ongoing tensions in West Asia and disruptions in key supply routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.

While details of the transactions remain limited, the resumption of Iranian oil flows to India could have broader implications for global energy pricing and regional diplomatic relations.
