France forward Kylian Mbappé has become the first player to win the FIFA World Cup Golden Boot twice after finishing as the top scorer at the 2026 tournament with 10 goals.
Mbappé, who also claimed the Golden Boot at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with eight goals, scored 10 times in eight matches to finish ahead of Argentina captain Lionel Messi, who ended the tournament with eight goals.
The 27-year-old also became the leading men’s World Cup goalscorer in history with 22 career goals, surpassing Messi’s previous record of 21.
Despite his individual success, Mbappé said he would have preferred reaching the final over winning the scoring title after France finished fourth following a 6-4 defeat to England in the third-place match.
World Cup champions Spain dominated the individual awards following their 1-0 victory over Argentina in the final.
Captain Rodri received the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player after leading Spain to its second men’s World Cup title. The Manchester City midfielder added the honour to his Ballon d’Or and UEFA Euro 2024 Player of the Tournament awards.
Spain goalkeeper Unai Simón won the Golden Glove after conceding just one goal and keeping seven clean sheets in eight matches.
Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsí was named Best Young Player after playing every minute of Spain’s title-winning campaign, helping the team concede just once throughout the tournament.
